PAUL (Dec. 5, 2023) — The Mother Baby Center, a partnership between Allina Health and Children’s Minnesota, is pleased to announce the Mother Baby Center locations in St. Paul and Coon Rapids have been named among the 2023-2024 Best Maternity Hospitals by receiving the designation of High Performing by U.S. News & World Report. The Mother Baby Center in Coon Rapids was one of only 73 locations nationwide to receive the new Maternity Care Access Designation, denoting the high-quality care provided in an area with otherwise limited maternity care resources.

“It is an honor to have U.S. News and World Report continue to recognize the hard work and dedication our teams pour into caring for patients in our Mother Baby Centers,” said William Wagner, MD, interim vice president, Women’s Health Services. “We take great pride in providing safe, high quality and compassionate care for our families throughout the childbirth journey.”

The High Performing designation is the highest award a hospital can earn from U.S. News and World Report’s national rankings for hospitals providing maternity care. To receive the High Performing designation, our Mother Baby Centers in St. Paul and Coon Rapids were evaluated on a number of measures such as:

  • C-section rates in lower risk pregnancies
  • Unexpected newborn complications
  • Exclusive breast milk feeding rates
  • Transparency on racial/ethnic disparities

U.S. News and World Report’s annual evaluation is designed to assist expectant parents in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care. 680 hospitals across the country that provide labor and delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies were evaluated for the 2023-2024 U.S. News and World Report Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. Fewer than half of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.
