In an emergency, you should always call 9-1-1.

A dedicated entrance to The Mother Baby Center is located at 902 East 26th Street Minneapolis, MN 55404, between 10th Avenue S and Chicago Avenue.

Expecting moms can be dropped off at the main entrance, where there will be a concierge who can direct them to the check-in desk on the third floor.

Once you pull into The Mother Baby Center, you can follow the roundabout to the main entrance for drop off, or you can park in the Blue/26th Street visitor ramp (to the right of the main entrance).

Families and visitors may park in the Blue/26th Street visitor ramp adjacent to The Mother Baby Center. From there, take the South elevators to the first floor and walk outside to the main entrance.

Families and visitors of patients staying multiple days may be interested in discounted parking options. Stop in at the third floor Celebration Plaza desk within The Mother Baby Center to receive an information packet.

The Mother Baby Center at Abbott Northwestern and Children’s Minnesota provides the following amenities to ensure a comfortable, warm, and calm environment for your delivery:

  • Television
  • DVD player
  • Wi-Fi access
  • iPod® doc (compatible with iPods and older iPhones. Newer iPhones or other equipment will require an adaptor or other audio equipment)
  • A fold-out couch or recliner available for your partner
  • A luggage cart with lockable safe that holds all of your belongings and moves with you from room to room
  • Private bathroom with a shower or a tub/shower combination
  • A small refrigerator (no freezer)

Family memories are born at The Mother Baby Center. We recognize the important roles loved ones will play in your baby’s life and welcome them to share in this experience. We have the following spaces that allow family members and friends to participate while still giving baby and parents the time and privacy they need to bond as well:

Celebration Plaza

A gathering and waiting area for patients, families and visitors, the Celebration Plaza has a child’s play area and beautiful interactive pieces of art to keep your little ones entertained.

Large waiting and relaxation areas are on the second and fourth floors of The Mother Baby Center. 

Interfaith chapel

An interfaith chapel is located on the first floor at Children’s Minnesota, and the interfaith Ewe Memorial Chapel is located on the first floor at Abbott Northwestern. Chaplains are available to support the special spiritual needs of patients and families.

Healing Garden

Open to the public, the Healing Garden is located outside the entryway of the Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center on the corner of Chicago Avenue and 26th Street. The Healing Garden contains a family of animals created out of Minnesota granite. The forms are smooth and rounded like large beach stones with textured areas inviting children and adults to touch, hug, play, and interact.

Other outside spaces have bike racks, outdoor games, and benches for visitors and guests.

Should you choose to bring a patient a gift, the following gift shops are on site at The Mother Baby Center: 

Storybook Gift Shop – Children’s Minnesota

Storybook Gift Shop, located in the second floor skyway at Children’s Minnesota, sells toys, balloons, books, cards, gifts and personal items. All profits are donated to programs and services at Children’s Minnesota.

Storybook Gift Shop hours:

  • Monday-Thursday: 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Friday: 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Saturday: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Sunday: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The Gift Shop at Abbott Northwestern

The Gift Shop offers a large selection of cards, stuffed toys, balloons, fresh flowers, paperback books, baby items, candies and more. It is located across the street from The Mother Baby Center in the Courage Kenny lobby of Abbott Northwestern.

The Gift Shop hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Saturday: Closed
  • Sunday: Closed

Marketplace – Children’s Minnesota

Marketplace is a convenience store on the second floor of the Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center. It offers basic sundries, food, logo wear, infant and breastfeeding supplies, and other health-related products as well as retail pharmacy.

Marketplace hours:

  • Monday-Friday: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At Your Service

At Your Service is a personalized dining service in which patients can order their meals off a restaurant-style menu. Visitors and guests of patients may also order At Your Service meals delivered to the patient’s room. See the At Your Service card in the patient welcome packet for instructions and pricing.

Starz Café

Located on the first floor of Children’s Minnesota near the Welcome Center, the Starz Café provides a delicious deli, salad bar, hot entrées, dine-in or take-out.

  • 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
  • 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
  • 1:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Weekends and holidays

  • 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Located on the second floor of Children’s Minnesota Specialty Center in Marketplace, Jazzman’s Café serves specialty coffee, tea, smoothies, pastries, soup, salad, and sandwiches.

  • Jazzman’s Café is closed on holidays.

Vending machines

Vending machines are located at The Mother Baby Center on the second floor and Children’s Minnesota on the first floor (between the Interfaith Chapel and Emergency Department) and on the lower level (near the hospital elevators).

Hospital cafeteria at Abbott Northwestern

The Abbott Northwestern cafeteria is located on the lower level of the lobby of the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute and is accessible either by escalator or elevator during these hours:

Located at the top of Abbott Northwestern’s main lobby staircase on the second floor near the Heart Hospital, the Skyway Café offers coffee drinks and other beverages, as well as salads, sandwiches and a variety of pastries during the following hours:
